Activist DeRay McKesson Speaks at Greensboro’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration January 18th

Top Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson is coming to Greensboro this month. He will speak at the city's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration January 18th. The event takes place at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Auditorium at 7 p.m. It is co-hosted by UNCG and North Carolina A&T.  Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and admission along with parking is free. McKesson will provide a unique perspective as someone who is currently at the heart of the race relations debate in America. 

McKesson is part of a new age of activist who spreads their message through various social media platforms. He has also been active in protests taking place in Ferguson, Missouri and his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland.  McKesson has shared his opinions as a writer for The Huffington Post and The Guardian. He is the founder of the police reform platform, Campaign Zero. McKesson is a graduate of Bowdoin College. He has held many positions in education, including working for two years for Teach for America after he graduated from college.
