Actor Darryl Van Leer has portrayed some of the most important African-Americans of all-time. That made him the perfect choice to serve as keynote speaker at the Warren County Public Schools Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

The event was held on January 13th from 4-6 p.m. at Warren Central High School. It was free and open to the public.

The theme of the proceedings this year was a well know King quote, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” In addition to Van Leer's presentation, students showcased the writing, music and artwork.

Van Leer has portrayed seven different American icons in one-man stage performances. He has performed at over 300 universities throughout the country.

Van Leer began his career as a musical performer at the age of 11. He got an early break as part of the ensemble on BET's "Bobby Jones Gospel Show."

Van Leer went on to star in TLC's reality series, "The Messengers." He has also been featured in several television movies.
