Anti-racism author Tim Wise has devoted his life to promoting a message of equality. That made him the ideal choice speak at the University of Kentucky's Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

The event took place on January 15th at 10 a.m. at Lexington Center's Heritage Hall. There was a Freedom March following the formal program.

The theme of the event was "Dr. King's Vision in the Age of Betrayal." All activities were free and open to the public.

Wise has spoken in all 50 states and at over 1,000 college and high school campuses. He is the author of seven books and his eighth, "White LIES Matter: Race, Crime and the Politics of Fear in America," will be released later this year.

Wise began his anti-racism work as a youth coordinator in the early 1990s in Louisiana. He went on to serve as the associate director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Racism and Nazism.

Wise was an advisor to the Fisk University Race Relations Institute from 1999-2003. He is well-known for his work defending affirmative action.
