It has been a busy week of activities in New Mexico for bestselling author Sandra Cisneros. She has made several appearances and a few scheduled speaking engagements as well.
Her visit began on Sunday with a keynote reading at the UNM Summer Writers' Conference in Santa Fe. On Wednesday, she participated in an event at the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum.
Tomorrow, Cisneros will be back at the NHCC for a book signing and discussion. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and those interested can purchase tickets at the door one hour before the show.
Cisneros is best known for her first novel "The House on Mango Street". That book has been translated into many languages throughout the world and it netted her the National Book Award in 1985.
In 1991, Cisneros released one of her other most successful works, a collection of short stories titled, "Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories". The New York Times and The American Library Journal called it the noteworthy book of the year.
Today, Cisneros helps writers through two organizations she founded, the Macondo Foundation and the Alfredo Cisneros del Moral Foundation. She is a two-time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.
