After surviving the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, Heather Abbott has turned what could have been a negative into a positive.  Her inspirational story has been encouraging to many.

Abbott gets to share that message with Providence College graduates on May 15th.  She is the speaker for the school's 98th graduation exercise.

The ceremony will be held at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence.  In addition to speaking, Abbott will receive an honorary degree from the school she already holds her master's degree in business from.

On that harrowing day in April of 2013, Abbott was struck by shrapnel from one of the bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.  After several surgeries, it was necessary to amputate her left leg below the knee.

Despite the traumatic experience, Abbott persevered.  The day she was released from the hospital, she threw out the first pitch at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox game.

Abbott also returned to her job on a part-time basis just four months after the bombing.  She has established the Heather Abbott Foundation to help other amputees successfully transition back into their everyday lives.
