One of the most successful cartoonists in the world paid a visit to one of his former schools last week.  Leigh Rubin spoke at the promotion ceremony for eighth-grade students at the Cubberley School.

Rubin attended the school located in Long Beach, California from kindergarten through third grade.  Last Thursday, he made a five-hour drive to address the students.

In showing a replica of one of his early elementary school attempts at drawing, Rubin was able to provide levity to the event.  135 students were promoted at the ceremony.

Rubin is the creator of the syndicated comic strip Rubes.  The strip has been syndicated in over 400 newspapers across the world since 1989 by Creators Syndicate.

Rubin's roots in drawing and cartoons started when he founded his own greeting card company in 1978.  Six years later, he would be approached to write a daily comic for a small paper in Palmdale, California and the rest was history.

Several books have been published off of Rubin's iconic Rubes strip.  He also gives entertaining cartoon presentations at conferences and to professional organizations across the country.
