CNN Anchor Fredricka Whitfield Speaks at Rochester Institute of Technology January 26th

As one of the nation's most prominent African-American journalists, CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield has a profound understanding of U.S. race relations. She brings that background to the table as the keynote speaker at Rochester Institute of Technology's annual Expressions of King Legacy celebration. 

The event will be held January 26th from 12-2 p.m. at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center on campus. It is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. 

U.S. Circuit Judge Robert L. Wilkins will also participate in the festivities honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There will be a performance by The Fisk Jubilee Singers as well. 

Whitfield is based in Atlanta, Georgia and first joined CNN in 2002. She anchors the weekend edition of "CNN Newsroom" and has reported from all over the world for the network. 

Before joining CNN, Whitfield was an NBC News correspondent. She began her career in Charleston, South Carolina and also worked in markets like New Haven, Connecticut, Dallas, Texas, Washington D.C. and Miami, Florida. 

While at NBC, Whitfield won an Emmy Award in 2000 for long-form reporting. In 2005, she received the George Peabody award for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the Ebony award for Outstanding Women in Marketing and Communications.
