The 17th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day keynote speech takes place at Winston-Salem State University on January 16th. Comedian D.L. Hughley is the guest of honor.

Hughley's presentation takes place at 7 p.m. at K.R. Williams Auditorium on campus. The event is co-hosted by WSSU and Wake Forest University.

The event is free and open to the public. As one of America's most-popular African-American entertainers for two decades, Hughley should provide a unique perspective.

Hughley first became a big name nationally as the star of "The Hughleys" sitcom from 1998-2002. In 1999, he had a successful run as a member of The Original Kings of Comedy.

Outside of other top roles in television and film, Hughley has had a diverse entertainment career. He worked with CNN in 2008 to develop his own news show, "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News."

Hughley has also hosted multiple local and nationally-syndicated radio shows. He was a contestant on season 16 of "Dancing with the Stars."
