On Monday, The Celebration of Life Dinner was held to support great veterans initiatives in Gary, Indiana. The dinner also featured a top-flight keynote speaker in Army veteran J.R. Martinez.
There were about 150 veterans and their families in attendance. The dinner was held at 5:30 p.m. at the Marquette Park Pavilion.
Celebration of Life benefited the Webb House and the Veterans Resource Center. It is the goal particularly of the Webb House to provide housing in the Gary area for veterans.
Martinez saw active duty in Iraq and suffered severe burns when his Humvee hit a bomb in Karbala in 2003. The injuries he suffered took three years to recover from plus three dozen surgeries over the last 11 years.
