Documentarian Ken Burns Gives Stanford University Commencement Speech

Last month, Stanford University graduates got to hear from the seminal documentarian of our time.  Filmmaker Ken Burns addressed the Class of 2016 at Stanford's 125th commencement. 

The ceremony was held on June 12th at 10 a.m. at Stanford Stadium.  There were no tickets required and also a live stream was available for people to watch the conferring of degrees and Burns' presentation. 

Burns stressed the importance of curiosity with the graduates.  He also veered off course a bit to criticize Donald Trump's rise in American politics. 

Burns is certainly an authority on many areas of American history.  His award-winning documentaries have covered topics like the Civil War, explorers Lewis and Clark and the Statue of Liberty.

Burns 1990 documentary, "The Civil War", set a ratings record for American Public Television.  He has won 14 Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards and two Academy Award nominations.  

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored Burns with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.  This year, he was chosen to give the Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities.
