Americans have a never-ending fascination with space travel.  That makes Saturday's speaker at Heritage University's commencement hotly anticipated.

Former astronaut Bonnie Dunbar will speak to the Class of 2016.  The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the SunDome.

There will be over 350 undergraduate and graduate students from Heritage this spring.  Dunbar is also a fitting speaker as a native of nearby Sunnyside, Washington.

Dunbar worked for NASA for 27 years.  She went on five space shuttle missions throughout the 1980's and 1990's, logging over 1,200 hours in space.

In 2005, Dunbar retired from NASA.  She was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2013.

Following her NASA retirement, Dunbar served as the CEO of the Museum of Flight and director of the University of Houston STEM Center.   Currently, she is an aerospace engineering professor and the Director of the Institute for Engineering Education for Innovation at Texas A&M.
