Last month, the former president of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo addressed graduates at Walden University.  He gave his commencement speech at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland on July 16th.

There were 1,340 Walden graduates at the school's 56th commencement.  Zedillo talked about the importance educational institutions have in equipping students with the ability to think beyond the classroom.

He also discussed the gap that still remains in education and skills development.  In addition to his presentation, Zedillo received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

From 1994-2000, Zedillo served as the Mexican president.  While in office, he created a poverty-fighting program and privatized the state railway system.

Since leaving his post, Zedillo has been known as an economist and globalization expert.  He is the director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.

Zedillo is also an economics and politics professor at Yale.  In 2013, he joined The Elders, an independent council of global leaders who work towards peace and establishing human rights across the globe.
