Inventor Robert Fischell Speaks at Stevens Institute of Technology Commencement

This week, one of America's more innovative minds spoke to graduates at Stevens Institute of Technology.  Inventor Robert Fischell was the commencement speaker.

The 144th graduation ceremony was held at Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey.  There were 605 students who received degrees in the afternoon session.

Fischell talked about the growth and importance of technology.  He also talked about his personal journey as an inventor. 

Fischell holds over 200 U.S. and foreign medical patents.  Several biotechnology companies have been spawned from his inventions. 

For nearly 40 years on full and part-time basis, Fischell worked at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.  They did extensive work in the area of satellite navigation and he also developed a rechargable implantable pacemaker. 

Other things that were created inclued the implantable insulin pump and different coronary stents that open arteries.  For his amazing innovations, Fischell was presented the National Medal of Technology and Innovation last year.
