This Sunday, one of the most important executives in the hospitality business will address the graduates at Valparaiso University.  Marriott International CEO Arne Sorenson is the school's commencement speaker.

The ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center.  Degrees will be conferred to nearly 700 Valparaiso graduates.

General admission tickets are required to attend.  Doors open an hour before the start of the ceremony for guests.

Sorenson made history by becoming the first Marriott CEO from outside the family.  He just the company's third chief executive overall.

As CEO, Sorenson oversees one of the vastest empires in the lodging business with over 4,000 properties scattered across 80 countries.  Prior to assuming the top spot, he spent almost a decade working his way up with the company in a variety of roles.

Sorenson came to Marriott after being a corporate litigator with Latham & Watkins.  He currently serves on the Marriott International board of directors, is board chair for Brand USA and is on the board of trustees for the Brookings Institution.
