David Brooks is one of the most respected columnists and political commentators in the country.  Last Thursday, he spoke at an event at the University of Mississippi.

Brooks was the keynote speaker for the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honor College's Fall Convocation.  The evening began at 7 p.m. in the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

The college is celebrating its 20th anniversary this spring.  Brooks was able to discuss this unique presidential election cycle.

Brooks has been an Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times since 2003.  His columns appear in the paper and online every Tuesday and Friday.

Many know Brooks from his appearances on shows like "PBS NewsHour", "All Things Considered" and "Meet the Press".  He is also the author of three books.

His third book, "The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement," became a New York Times number one bestseller.  He gives back to the next generation as well as a professor at Yale University.
