New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet Speaks at Columbia College in May

One very successful Columbia College alumnus is coming back to campus to speak.  New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet is the keynote speaker for this year's CC Class Day.  

It will be held at 9:30 a.m. on May 17th at the South Lawns on Columbia's Morningside Heights campus.  Baquet will address Class of 2016 graduates at the event. 

Baquet studied English at Columbia College.  Seeing someone who once was in their shoes should be very inspiring to those students who are about to head off on their own paths in the workforce.  

Baquet became the first African American Executive Editor of the New York Times in 2014.  He had previously been NYT's managing editor for news and the Washington bureau chief. 

In addition, Baquet has held the top position at the Los Angeles Times as managing editor and editor of the newsroom.  He has a background in reporting at the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, The New Orleans Times-Picayune.  

In 1988, Baquet received a Pulitzer Prize for investigation corruption in the Chicago City Council.  He was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist for investigative reporting in 1994.
