Emory University is one of America's most prestigious schools.  For this year's commencement, they got someone equally respected in his field to speak.

Recognized epidemiologist William Foege spoke to Emory's Class of 2016 on Monday.  It was the college's 171st graduation proceeding.

The title of Foege's presentation was "Lessons I am Still Desperately Trying to Learn".  He broke the speech into ten different chapters that each taught different lessons.

Foege holds a special place for Emory in his heart as the school's Emeritus Presidential Distinguished Professor of International Health.  He originally joined the faculty of the university in 1997.

The feat that Foege is most known for is leading the campaign that helped eradicate smallpox in the late 1970's.  Following that success, he served as the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In 2012, Foege received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  He has a master's degree in public health from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
