Singer Annie Lennox Honored by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society

Singer Annie Lennox has gotten plenty of accolades for her work in entertainment and also for her humanitarian efforts.  She recently received a new honor in the latter category.

Lennox was awarded the Livingstone Medal by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.  She received the medal specifically for her work with HIV/AIDS awareness.

This award has been around since 1901 when it was given to Sir Harry H Johnston.  Lennox will officially receive the medal at a ceremony on March 18th in Edinburgh.

Lennox burst onto the scene in the 1980s as part of The Eurythmics.  She has won Best British Female Artist six times and eight Brit Awards, the most by any woman.

Also, Lennox has taken home four Grammys, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, and an MTV Video Music Award.  As a solo artist, she has released six studio albums.

In 2011, Lennox was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.  Rolling Stone has labeled her one of The 100 Greatest Singers of All-Time.
