Southern Poverty Law Center Co-Founder Morris Dees Named Keynote Speaker at John Hope Franklin Symposium

The years of civil rights activism that Morris Dees has under his belt is truly inspiring.  Dees will get to share some of the lessons he has learned at the John Hope Franklin Symposium on Reconciliation.  

The symposium runs May 25-27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tulsa Oklahoma.  The event theme is "Justice and Reconciliation".

Dees will present the keynote address on May 25th at 7 p.m.  Early registration for all three days is $225 and student registration is $100.

Dees founded the Southern Poverty Law Center in 1971 and has fought against white supremacist groups ever since.  His lawsuits have crippled the racist pursuits of groups like the Ku Klux Klan.

Prior to starting the SPLC, Dees had success in civil rights cases with his Montgomery, Alabama-based law practice.  He also was a successful businessman, starting his own book publishing sales company while at the University of Alabama.  

In 2006, the National Law Journal named him one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America.  Dees holds over 20 honorary degrees and has written three books about his experiences.
