The Starmus Festival is one of the most prestigious events in the world associated with the sciences. In a most fitting designation, this year the festival is dedicated to physicist Stephen Hawking.
Hawking will make an appearance as well at the event. The festival runs June 27-July 2nd at Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands.
Individuals have a chance now to submit questions for Hawking online and three will be selected for him to answer. Regular registration still runs until June 25th and people may purchase entry at the door as well.
Hawking is probably the world's best-known physicist. He is the Director of Research at the University of Cambridge's Center for Theoretical Cosmology.
From 1979-2009, Hawking was the Lucasian Professor at Cambridge, a chair that was once held by Sir Isaac Newton. He has written several books, including the international bestseller, "A Brief History History of Time".
Among his many honors, Hawking boasts over a dozen honorary degrees. In 2009, he was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom.
