Trailblazing Director Ava DuVernay Honored at The Revolution Awards

Director Ava DuVernay is getting one of the most distinguished honors of her lengthy career.  DuVernay will be honored at The Revolution Awards on February 10th.  

The cinema foundation ImageNation are recognizing those who embody "Black Excellence" during Black History Month.  It is being held at the SVA Theatre in New York City.

The evening is open to the public and tickets cost $32 in advance and $40 on the day of the event.  Festivities begin with a cocktail hour at 6:30 and the program begins at 7:30.  

DuVernay became the first African-American woman to win Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival.  She was recognized with the award in 2012 for her film "Middle of Nowhere".  

In 2014, DuVernay recorded some more milestones with her film Selma.  She was the first African-American female to be nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globes and the first to have her film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.  

DuVernay is currently working on a series for the Oprah Winfrey Network titled "Queen Sugar".  She is the creator, executive producer, writer, and director on the project.
